When I was a child, I used to dream a lot. Whenever I was playing outside or riding on a bus, a myriad of visuals entered my imaginary screen. While being on my own, I would “switch on” my channel. No matter what was going on in my life at that time, I would instantly feel better watching my movie. In my movie, everything was beautiful, peaceful, happy, and calming. I was the main character, director, producer, music engineer. Nothing was off-limits and in my imagination, I was confident, strong, intelligent, eloquent speaker, brave, fearless. My imagination was my peaceful oasis.
My mum always told me to stop dreaming and come back to Earth, and little did I know back then that all the dreaming would actually help me achieve my dream life.
After my childhood, I told myself to stop dreaming, because adults don’t do so by living in the real world. It was quite hard at first because I loved engaging with my imagination.
However, on my path of self-discovery, I realized how important dreams are, as well as setting goals and living with intention. Regardless of your age, dreams, goals, visions, and intentions are key elements for a complete life experience. Having a goal motivates you to get out of bed in the morning and makes you want to support others achieve their goals because you know how much your goal means to you.
As an adult, you might find it challenging to visualize your goals. Especially If you had many negative past experiences, you are tempted to ask yourself the question:
What’s the point?
Well, never give up on your dreams! You’ve come here to experience them. The way to do it is to set up some quiet time with yourself and ask yourself the following questions:
What do I want from my life?
What do I want to experience in this lifetime?
Am I expressing my authentic self at this moment?
Achieved goals can feel sometimes unfulfilling, mostly if they come from the egoic mind. I know people find it hard to admit that they have an ego, but we all do. Setting goals that are in alignment with your heart and soul will deliver the inner peace, balance, and harmony that you are constantly searching for. The moment you are clear on your goals, the whole Universe will conspire, support, orchestrate and help you to achieve them.
How to know if your goals are coming from the ego?
Well, if you want to prove something to someone else, instead of yourself, then it’s not coming from the right place.
After having set your goals, even with the help of a coach or mentor, you can begin to visualize that you have already achieved them. Notice how you feel, how you breathe, how you smile, and how you respond to others knowing that you achieved your goals. One of the easiest ways to experience this is through meditation.
Life is a rollercoaster, and you will have moments when you feel that nothing is moving. You might feel at a standstill, but remember that that’s not true. Everything is in constant movement all the time. Everything is energy.
Trust that life is working for you and not against you.
This is a big one, I know. Trusting. Trust that life will unfold in the most grandiose and magical way for you. You never question where the next breath is coming from, do you? You always trust that it will be there when needed. Can you trust life in the same way?
We don’t have much control over our lives. But we have control over our thoughts and the way we choose them. The moment we figure out a plan of how we would like our life to unfold, we must step back and enjoy the ride. No pushing and no fighting. Just surrendering to a higher force.
If you do this, your life will be even more beautiful than you can imagine. Our mind can’t see the multitude of options for our goals to unfold. The logical mind has its limits.
Most of the time, things don’t really work out the way we imagine them to. Instead, they work out even better. The only thing we have to do is to visualize and surrender, knowing that a higher force will take over and things will unfold for our highest good.
To go back to my own life, my childhood dreams and goals were really small compared with what I achieved. Although I would like to broach that at the time I was dreaming, all my dreams looked massive to me. But I never questioned how I am going to achieve them. I always trusted that I will. And you can do the same.
